Dental Veneers
At Dentrix Dental Care, our patients like to be informed, and our dental care team is always happy to answer any of your questions, such as, will dental veneers work with my teeth?
According to the Canadian Dental Association, dental treatments like dental bonding and veneers are used to fix cavities or broken teeth as well as to improve the look of healthy teeth by changing their colour, shape, angle or spacing. As either a cosmetic or medical procedure – veneers make your teeth look better, improve your smile, and give you more confidence while also repairing teeth that are broken, chipped or cracked, that have spaces between them, and or that are discoloured.
So what are veneers? Veneers are very thin shells that are attached to the front part of teeth. They are often made of porcelain or composite resin. Porcelain veneers last longer and are stronger than composite resin veneers and do not change colour or stain. Generally, porcelain veneers take at least two dental visits to apply and composite resin veneers can be done in one visit.
There are two main types of materials used to manufacture a veneer: composite and dental porcelain. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement such as Panavia. In contrast, porcelain veneers can only be created in a laboratory before being fused to the tooth.
Types of veneers also include full veneer crowns, as well as laminate veneers. While a full veneer crown is a restoration that covers all coronal tooth surfaces, and re-establishes the tooth’s functionality, a laminate veneer consists of a thin layer that covers only the tooth’s surface, and is generally used solely for aesthetic purposes.
